Bjorg Backs Murray Triumph

British number one Andy Murray will go into next week’s Wimbledon championships with the backing of five-time champion Bjorn Bjorg. The Swedish legend has revealed he feels the Brit is in the perfect place to finally push on and collect his maiden Grand Slam. Murray will start the tournament as the fourth seed and once again the Scot will have the pressure of an entire nation on his shoulders. After falling short at the semi-final stage for the past two consecutive years, Murray will be desperate to go better this year.

The problem once again for the 24-year old will be the presence of Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic and king of grass Roger Federer, who will be in line to play Murray at the semi-final stage should the Scot make it. 11-Grand Slam winner Bjorg feels that after winning at Queens last week, Murray is in the ideal form to achieve his targets over the next couple of weeks. The Wimbledon tennis betting 2011 suggests he has every chance of claiming a win. The Swede also played down the impact that losing three Grand Slam finals will have had on Murray.

“Murray has a great chance to win. He is more mature, he is ready to win. The tennis he is playing is unbelievable. He has been in three finals and lost but Ivan Lendl was the same,” he said.

“But he has learned a lot in the last six months – he has never been better prepared for Wimbledon in his life.”

Despite suffering an ankle injury in last month’s French Open on his way to the semi-finals, Murray looked in scintillating form at Queens last week. Not only did the Scot produce some stunning tennis but he also showed his character to come through some scary moments, including his victory against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final after going a set down to the Frenchman. Those who bet on Wimbledon tennis will have been impressed.

The positive impact that playing in front of his home fans was clear to see in both Murray’s form and in his face, which broke into a couple of rarely seen smiles. The fans will be behind Murray in their thousands over the next few weeks and if Murray can maintain his impressive recent form, then this could well finally be the year.
