London Prepares – International Hockey Tournament

International Hockey begins this week as part of the London Prepares series of Olympic test events. Eight teams from around the world including Australia, Argentina, China, India, Germany, Korea and Great Britain will be competing over 5 days in the brand new Riverbank Arena.

The tournament is part of a series of mini events to test the new olympic venues ahead of the 2012 olympics. Tournaments include Hockey, Water Polo and Wheelchair Tennis along with an Olympic Stadium Evening Event bringing sports stars, celebrities and 40,000 fans together in the new Olympic Stadium on the 5th May.

Although Hockey doesn’t get the coverage of football in this country it still remains a firm favourite of sports fans, probably because we have been quite good at it through the years. It’s a hugely skillful sport, and the International Invitational Hockey tournament will welcome some of the most skillful players in the business to the capital. And the fact that it will offer hockey fans the chance to see the brand new Hockey Centre for possibly the first time makes this event even more of a crowd puller.
