Blue Bunting Heads Oaks Betting

Frankie Dettori’s mount Blue Bunting heads the list of horse betting favourites for the Epsom Oaks this weekend.

The 1,000 Guineas winner leads a field of 13 fillies into the Oaks on Friday, and is as short as 2/1 with some bookmakers.

History beckons for Blue Bunting as she bids to become the first horse since Kazzia in 2002 to win both the Oaks and the 1,000 Guineas in the same year.

Detorri is riding the Mahmood Al Zaroon trained horse as the trainer goes in search of his second British classic win after collecting his first last month.

His main rival come race day will likely be any of the four Aiden O’Brien horses – including Cheshire Oaks Wonder of wonders – or the Jaber Abdulla trained Zain Al Boldan, and Abdulla’s racing manager Bruce Raymond believes it won’t all be plain sailing for Dettori and Blue Bunting on Friday.

“I wouldn’t think that Frankie Dettori would be too frightened of us on Blue Bunting but these big Classics can often spring surprises with the placed horses.” Raymond commented.

While only a limited amount of horse bets have backed the Lingfield Trial Oaks winner, she may well cause an upset as Raymond suggests.

There are a few well-known names that will be following the Oaks, with Abba’s Benny Anderson and former footballer Mick Channon owning a stake in Beatrice Aurore and Zain Al Boldan respectively.
