Grand National Blogs

The Randox Health Grand National, held annually at Aintree Racecourse is one of the biggest races in the world. With nearly 11 million viewers in the UK and a worldwide audience of approximately 600 million, it is also one of the most-watched races on the planet. Every year 40 runners and riders take to the starting line ready to take on the notoriously difficult fences. But there can only be one winner.

This is a race that can catapult you into the history books. Almost no other race can generate so many household names. Red Rum, Foinavon, Tiger Roll, Bob Champion and Aldaniti, we all know their stories. So it comes as no surprise that so many websites, blogs, books, videos and social media accounts are dedicated to it.

As we approach the time of year when the entries for the Grand National 2020 are about to be revealed, it’s time to get ready for the buzz. Ante-post markets have already formed and there are a few contenders already worth a second look. Of course nobody should look passed Tiger Roll as he bids for a third consecutive win. But with connections fearing he may be burdened by top-weight, there are some others who could give him a run for his money.

Grand National 2020 Contenders

As none of these potential runners have been officially entered, it is pure speculation for the moment. However, Potters Corner is one to keep an eye on. The winner of the Welsh National has plenty of stamina and a lovely jumping style. On good form, he could prove his worth at Aintree on April 4th 2020.

Magic Of Light, the runner-up last season is also having another very good season. Can she make history and become the first mare to win the Grand National since Nickel Coin in 1951? Her trainer Jessica Harrington is hoping she can.

Maybe Irish trainer Gordon Elliott will have another winner that isn’t Tiger Roll? He believes he has about 15 potential entries and looks set to dominate the line-up once again.

When the BHA Handicapper reveals the weights for the  National in 2020, we will have a much better picture of who are likely to run a good race.
