Good Week, Bad Week – The Barclays

There are plenty of people having worse weeks than those involved in The Barclays at the Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey. As Hurricane Irene lashes the east coast of America, the course director at Plainfield who had to cut the tournament down to 54 holes is low down the list of those to feel sympathy for.

Dustin Johnson is one man who has enjoyed his week on the rain-soaked east coast. The South Carolinian’s stunning form at Plainfield – he shot 66, 63, and 65 – earned him his first title of the year and opened up a large FedEx Cup points lead after starting the tournament in 19th place. Having won the BMW Championship last year, the new world number four will approach the rest of the play-offs with confidence. Those looking at Mobile betting will know this.

Matt Kuchar could not quite defend his Barclays title after carding 68 in the final round and being forced to see if that round could not be finished and be declared winner by the event being set back to a 36-hole tournament. He can nonetheless be happy with the continuation of steady form that gives him high hopes of lifting the FedEx Cup.

Luke Donald, Nick Watney and Webb Simpson all consolidated their place in the top five of the points list, whilst Steve Stricker and KJ Choi lost little ground, Mr consistent Gary Woodland remains in 10th place.

The biggest movers into the top 10 after this opening play-off event are Brandt Snedeker and Vijay Singh, up from 18th to sixth and from 36th to eighth respectively. The former broke the course record with a final round 61, whilst Singh’s partial recovery this season continues. Anyone with a betfair cashback offer should bear this in mind.

It was certainly a bad week for the players who dropped out of the play-offs by sliding out of the top 100 on the FedEx Cup points list. Bryce Molder is the lucky man to stand 101st in the standings despite making the cut and is joined by, Hunter Haas, Chris DiMarco, Paul Goydos, Nick O’Hern, Matt Bettencourt, Tim Herron and Michael Bradley in falling out of the top 100. They will be spectators at the Deutsche Bank Championships.
