An all Flat card at Naas gets underway at 14:05

“He [Six of Hearts] wasn’t beaten that far by Dahindar at Dundalk last time and is now 4 lb lower than when last successful in a handicap.”

We’ve got three tips on a what looks a difficult card at Naas….

Eighteen-runner handicaps confined to apprentice jockeys that have not ridden more than ten winners at the start of the current season are certainly not everyone’s idea of an ideal betting opportunity. However, such was the promise shown by Captain James on his seasonal reappearance at Limerick last month that he looks worth taking a punt on. The son of Captain Rio was fully ten lengths adrift of the leaders turning for home that day before making up ground to such effect that he would probably have won in another fifty yards or so. He looks capable of turning around that form with the pair that finished immediately in front of him, namely Legendary Times and Lansdowne, is nicely drawn in stall nine and remains relatively unexposed after just a handful of runs.

Robert Cowell saddles his first ever runner in Ireland in the Woodlands Stakes at 15:40 and there is a good chance that it will be a winner Lui Rei looks to have strong claims in a race that should be run to suit. A dual group winner earlier in his career, Lui Rei didn’t shape too badly in a couple of starts in Dubai earlier in the year before showing that he retains all of his old ability when third in a listed contest at Lingfield last month. There will be plenty of pace on here which will play into the hands of those who like to come from behind, such as Lui Rei, and this stiff track will also suit Seamus Heffernan’s mount.

Six of Hearts (16:50) has been a tremendous servant to connections down through the years and has shown enough in two starts this year to suggest that his best days are not yet behind him. He wasn’t beaten that far by Dahindar at Dundalk last time and is now 4 lb lower than when last successful in a handicap. He hasn’t been done any favours by the draw but it is worth noting that he was drawn in stall fifteen when victorious on his only previous visit to this track and Fran Berry gets on well with him.

Back Captain James @ [8.0] in the 15:05
Back Lui Rei @ [6.6] in the 15:40
Back Six of Hearts @ [12.5] in the 16:50
