If you’ve got a pre-race favorite already it might be worth tracking the ante post Grand National odds for the next few months.

Every month we will list the updated odds so you can easily see any movements in price. The Chase season is now well and truly underway, already a few big runners seem to be pointed at the National. The bookmakers already have Vic Venturi as the 16/1 favorite, with Niche Market second at 20/1.

Here are the latest odds from Paddy Power Bookmakers. Remember Ante Post rules apply to all bets made now. (In other words, you’ll lose your money if it doesn’t run!)

Vic Venturi ~ 16/1

Niche Market ~ 20/1

Tricky Trickster ~ 28/1

State Of Play ~ 25/1

Black Apalachi ~ 25/1

Comply Or Die ~ 25/1

Character Building ~ 25/1

Big Fella Thanks ~ 25/1

My Will ~ 25/1

Backstage ~ 25/1

Hello Bud ~ 25/1

Don’t Push It ~ 25/1

Gallant Nuit ~ 25/1

Arbor Supreme ~ 25/1

Irish Raptor ~ 33/1

Mon Mome ~ 33/1

Butler’s Cabin ~ 33/1

Notre Pere ~ 33/1

Possol ~ 33/1

Nine De Sivola ~ 33/1

War Of Attrition ~ 33/1

Having seen Niche Market run a few times he wouldn’t be my choice for the second place favorite! Tricky Trickster would seem like a better bet at 28/1 certainly has a great each way shot.

Ante post markets have already formed and there’s a few contenders already worth a second look. If you want to check out some big priced runners for the annual Aintree race then try these blogs. The first blog to try is Grand National Tumblr, with updated stories on the new runners and a guide to form it’s a good place to start. Another one to try is the Grand National Hubpage, hubpages are a great way to get detailed information on virtually any subject, especially horse racing and betting systems. The last one is Grand National Posterous, this is a new blog but already it’s shaping up to be a good read on all things Grand National related.

The Each Way bet is ideal if you fancy a horse to do well, but not necessarily to win. When you bet ‘Each Way’ you are actually having two bets in one, the first bet is that your horse will win, the second bet is that your horse will be placed 2nd, 3rd or in fields of 16+ runners, even a 4th place will win you money. You can’t bet on a horse each way if the race has less than 5 runners and a race with 5 ~ 7 runners will only pay out on a 2nd place.

It’s also worth noting that if your horse doesn’t win but is placed (usually 2nd, 3rd) you will only get 1/4 or 1/5 of the quoted odds. Which means you shouldn’t back a horse each way unless it’s odds are over 5-1, because you could never win enough to cover your original stake at odds of 5-1 or shorter.

It shows you the correct way to fill in the bookmakers slip for each way betting.

Remember that an each way bet is actually made up of two bets, so if you bet £5 each way, your total bet cost will be £10 (£5 on the win and £5 on the place)
