Gold Cup Fever

The Cheltenham Festival has finally arrived and amongst a week packed with great racing is the world famous ‘Gold Cup’, which is one of the most eagerly anticipated races throughout the British and Irish racing calendar.

The Gold Cup has a fantastic history and has seen some truly fantastic Horses, Jockeys and Trainers over the years. The race was first run in 1924 and since then seen many legends past the winning line. One such is Golden Miller who, in 1932 won the cup on its first attempt and went on to win a further 4 times on consecutive years.

But for those of you who enjoy betting on the big race it is the recent history that is interesting, particularly as Kauto Star has now been confirmed for the Gold Cup after a nasty fall in training almost ruled the previous champion out of this years race.

The bookies favourite is Long Run at 6/4 with Kauto Star and Burton Port close on its heels at 7/2 and 7/1 respectively. Weird Al looks a good prospect at 10/1 after an impressive win in the Charlie Hall Chase last year.
