Two of today’s bets run at Wetherby

“If the Nigel Twist-Davies has Patman Du Charmil back to anywhere near his best and his jumping proves solid – it’s been a problem in the past – he’ll be expected to go close.”

Today’s Follow The Money movers come from the meetings at Wetherby and Cheltenham.

We start at Wetherby and in the 13:45 2m4f Handicap Chase where Ferdy Murphy’s Pistol Basc has drifted from an early low of [2.84] out to [3.65].

Having won this race last year, he boasts course and distance form and last time out horse and jockey won well here again over slightly longer. His main rival today is runner-up in the latter, Archie’s Wish. However, taking into account Pistol Basc’s jockey’s 7lb claim, he’s still 7lb worse off and Archie’s Wish will expect to be closer anyway if he can cut out the mistake that cost him dearly last time. With positives for both Archie’s Wish and Jeringa the money suggests it’s going to be a much harder task for Pistol Basc this year.

Over at Cheltenham in the 15:10 3m1f Listed Handicap Hurdle there has been support for Cross Kennon. An earlier [10.5] Alan O’Keefe’s mount is now trading at [7.0]. He’s 2lbs better off than when fourth in the Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle at the festival last year and the slight step up in trip will play into his hands. The only concern is that he’ll not progress from his well-beaten reappearance at Aintree three weeks ago but the money suggests that shouldn’t be the case.

Finally we’re back at Wetherby in the 15:25 3m1f Handicap Chase where Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Patman Du Charmil has been backed into [6.4] from an earlier [8.4]. His best form comes in 2007 and with only two completions in his last seven, and not seen in 392 days, he is back to being well handicapped. But if the trainer has him back to anywhere near his best and his jumping proves solid – it’s been a problem in the past – he’ll be expected to go close.
