Will Warwick be the undoing of Shillingstone?

“This is Shillingstone’s first run under rules for almost a year and although he won a point-to-point a fortnight ago he only just scraped home when expected to win with ease.”

Sunday’s three Follow The Money bets come from Market Rasen and Warwick.

We start with the the 2m6f Handicap Chase at Market Rasen (15:20) where there has been solid support for Charlie Longsdon’s Maurisca who has shortened to [3.1] from [4.1]. A consistent sort who has gone close to adding to his one win on a couple of occasions this season, this is will be his first attempt at a trip this far. However, the way he stayed on last time out over 2m3f suggests that today’s trip should be within reach. The good ground is also in his favour and he should go close to continuing his trainer’s good recent form.

We stay at Market Rasen for our second bet which comes in the 2m4f Handicap Chase at 15:50, where there has been positive move for Muntami who is now available around the [8.8] mark having earlier been [14.0]. Muntami, a solid performer over hurdles, was switched to fences this season but he has been pretty disappointing in his four attempts so far, finishing unplaced each time. This is a lower grade than he has been competing in of late while he boasts a proven liking for both track and good ground. Things look in his favour for a big run today.

For today’s negative we venture to Warwick and in the 3m2f Hunters Chase at 16:40 Shillingstone has eased out to [2.30] from [1.94]. He’s an interesting recruit to this sphere, having been a fair performer for Robert Alner and has many things in his favour today. But this is his first run under rules for almost a year and although he won a point-to-point a fortnight ago he only just scraped home when expected to win with ease. This will be tougher with two or three rivals with similar credentials and he will need to be on top of his game. At the prices we feel he may be worth taking on today.
