Follow the money to Lingfield

Today’s Follow The Money movers come from the meeting at Lingfield.

In the 6f Handicap at 13:40, Secret Asset has been backed to follow up his recent win over course and distance from [5.1] in to [3.6]. That was the gelding’s first visit to the Surrey track but he had previously enjoyed a win at Wolverhampton and a second at Great Leighs so all weather surfaces clearly suit. In addition, the winning margin of just a length-and-a-half that day does not accurately reflect quite how comfortable that victory was and so the subsequent 8lb rise from the handicapper may not be enough to stop for Secret Asset going in again today.

In the four runner maiden at 14:15, second favourite American Smooth has been friendless this morning, drifting from [2.0] out to [2.7]. Jeremy Noseda’s charge went off a well backed favourite on his debut but the colt found next to nothing when asked the question, eventually trailing in a well beaten fifth. This race will not take much winning and the colt is entitled to come on for that run but American Smooth’s response to pressure on his debut has created enough doubt for backers to leave this one alone.

Our final mover comes in the 15:25 where Vinces has been steadily supported from [16.0] in to [10.5]. Whilst Vince’s recent form figures of 007 are far from inspiring, two of those three runs came over 12 furlongs, whereas all four of his previous wins have come over today’s course and distance. Add the fact that the gelding runs off a mark some 5lbs lower than when last successful, it is not difficult to see why the money has come for him today.
