Fahey’s Glorious Goodwood Preview

With the first couple of days of Glorious Goodwood ahead, star columnist Richard Fahey gives us his guide on the competing runners.

It should be a very busy week down Glorious Goodwood and many are actually hoping that the weather is not too glorious. Some would actually prefer to see a little rain. This definitely applies to Spirit of the Law and Hi There in the opening Bet365 Handicap. Both horses are good handicappers, but this competition is fierce.

Supplicant has had a good spell since the Royal Ascot where he performed excellently to come in second in the Windsor Castle event. In comparison to some of the other competitors, he would definitely be helped by a bit of rain in the run up to the Bet365 Molecomb Stakes. However, he has sharpened up since the Royal Ascot and a good run is needed in the race ahead.

Fahey is completely delighted by Garswood ahead of the Bet365 Lennox Stakes and is hopeful that this is the day he shows everyone what he is made of. Garswood would also undoubtedly benefit from a bit of rain in the run up. He has won on soft ground and it would definitely cause more problems for the other horses. Ryan Moore is riding him and he had a great race in the Newmarket July Meeting.

Kyllachy Star and Snooky would also benefit from the rain. In the lead up to the Poker at Bet365 Handicap, Kyllachy Star is well handicapped following his previous form and would definitely deal with the soft ground better than the others. Fahey has been a little disappointed with Snooky recently. He recently missed the kick at York and Tony Hamilton thought he would not get into the race after that. The horse is nicely handicapped and could run a good race if he gets a good break.

Arctic Feeling is another good bet for an each-way in the final Mobile at Bet365 Handicap. Again, rain would be beneficial here, slowing down some of the other contenders. Despite the rain, Arctic Feeling ran a blinder in York. It’s a hard one to call. It’s such an open field that you could pick six horses which don’t finish in the top half.

Parbold should be a good bet leading up to the Veuve Cliquot Vintage Stakes. He has performed exceptionally since the Royal Ascot and is looking promising going forward. He’s been in great form at home and Fahey is confident that the trip will be good for him.

Flycatcher is another favourite of Fahey. After an average maiden race, she has come on significantly since. With the Markel Insurance Maiden stakes coming up, Fahey is hope that she gets placed. Either way, she has a future ahead of her.

Eastern Destiny is another who would be significantly helped by a bit of soft ground in the British Stallion Studs Turf Club E.B.F Fillies Handicap. Alejandro was back to his usual form in Ayr recently. His confidence is likely to be high going into the race ahead.
